Built in 1906 at the cost of 10,000 dollars. From leased prisoners, chain gangs to the different forms of execution the Turner County Jail is on the National Register of Historic Places. Because of its Romanesque style, the inmates named it the "Castle Turner." The former jail held up to 40 inmates upstairs and the jailers and there familes down stairs. The original jail cells remain upstairs, along with the death cell, hanging hook and trapdoor; where 2 men were hung for the crime of murder.
